A file is too large to download

Symptom​

On a shared link, an attachment shows Too large to download from a shared link and nothing happens when the viewer selects it.

Cause​

A shared link downloads each file in one response, and Atlassian Forge limits app responses to 5 MB. After encoding, that leaves room for files up to 3.5 MB.

Solution​

Choose one:

  • Compress the file, or split it into parts under 3.5 MB, and attach those to the work item instead.
  • Send large files to the viewer through another channel, such as a file-sharing service your organization approves.

Before you share, the share window warns next to Attachments when files are over the limit.

Still not working?​

If a file under 3.5 MB doesn't download, contact support and include the file size and the message the viewer sees.
