Error: "This work item can't be shown"

Symptom​

The shared link opens, but shows This work item can't be shown, This board can't be shown or These results can't be shown instead of the content.

Find the cause​

  1. Open the share window for the content.
    • If the link bar says Viewers won't be able to open this work item, or the same for a board, go to the first cause below.
    • If it says This project isn't approved for sharing, or a filter link says No projects are approved for sharing, go to the second cause below.
    • If a filter link says The app can't read this filter, go to the third cause below.
    • If the content was deleted or moved, go to the fourth cause below.

The app can't read the work item or board​

Cause: Shared links read Jira with the app's own access, not yours. A work item security level, or a permission scheme that doesn't include the app, can hide content from the app that you can see.

Solution:

As a Jira admin:

  1. Open the space's permission scheme, or its work item security scheme.
  2. Give browse access to the atlassian-addons-project-access role, which apps use to reach a space.
  3. Open the share window again. The warning disappears once the app can read the content.

The space isn't allowed to be shared​

Cause: Your Jira admin allows links only for some spaces, and this work item's space isn't one of them. The check runs every time the link opens, so a link can stop working when the list changes. A filter link shows nothing until an admin allows at least one space.

Solution:

As a Jira admin:

  1. On the app's Sharing Policy tab, under Projects that can be shared, add the space, or select All projects.
  2. Select Save changes, then ask the viewer to reload the page.

The filter is private​

Cause: The app can't read a saved filter that is shared with nobody.

Solution:

  1. In Jira, open the filter's details and edit who it's shared with.
  2. Share the filter, for example with your organization or with the space.
  3. Ask the viewer to reload the page.

The content was deleted or moved​

Cause: A deleted work item, board or filter can't be shown.

Solution: Share the content again from its new location, and send the new link.

Still not working?​

Contact support and include the work item key, board or filter name, and the message the viewer sees.
