Secrets for Jira: Password-Protected Content and Secrets for Confluence: Password-Protected Content let users store sensitive information ("secrets") in Jira issues or Confluence pages. Each secret is protected by a password, so only authorized users can access it.
Security and Accessβ
- Secure storage: Secrets are stored in encrypted format. See Forge Encrypted Storage.
- Password protection: Each secret requires a password. Users must enter the correct password to unlock and view content.
- User access control: Secrets are accessible only to the user who unlocked them.
How to Add a Secretβ
Before you begin, open the Jira issue or Confluence page where you want to store the secret.

- Navigate to the target Jira issue.
- Open the Secrets panel.
- Click Add secret.
- Fill in the required fields, including title and password.
- Enter the secret content and save.
- Navigate to the target Confluence page.
- Insert the Secrets macro.
- Click Add secret.
- Fill in the required fields, including title and password.
- Enter the secret content and save.
How to Unlock a Secretβ
- Open the secret in the issue or page.
- Click Unlock.
- Enter the correct password on the unlock screen.
Expected result: The secret content becomes visible.
How to Manage an Unlocked Secretβ
After a secret is unlocked, you can:
- View the secret content.
- Edit the content.
- Change the password.
- Delete the secret if no longer needed.
