Parent Field

Overview​

"Parent Field" is a read-only field that displays any specified field (e.g., status, assignee, priority) from the parent issue, if one exists. This allows for a quick reference to parent issue details without navigating away.

Use Cases​

  • Parent Assignee/Status/Labels/Priority and other fields: Display the value of the parent issue's field (epic for standard tasks, standard tasks for sub-tasks) without needing to switch between the current issue and its parent.

Inputs and defaults​

  • Parent field to display: Choose the parent issue field to read (for example status, assignee, or priority).
  • Field context and screens: Control where this value is shown.

Example configuration​

Display parent priority on sub-tasks:

  • Parent field: Priority
  • Context: Sub-task issue types in the target projects

This setup shows each sub-task with the current priority from its parent issue.

Expected result​

  • The field displays the selected parent field value.
  • The value matches the parent issue value shown in Jira.

Edge cases​

  • If an issue has no parent relationship, the field may be empty.
