Troubleshooting

Diagram is not rendering​

  • Check your Mermaid syntax for errors. Even a small typo can prevent rendering. Use the Mermaid Live Editor to validate your syntax before pasting it into Confluence or Jira.
  • Make sure the app is installed and enabled. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps and confirm Mermaid Diagrams app is listed as Enabled.

The Mermaid Diagram macro does not appear in Confluence​

  • The app may not be installed. Go to Settings > Apps > Find new apps and search for Apportunity: Mermaid Diagrams.
  • If the app is installed but the macro is missing, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser.

The Diagrams panel does not appear in Jira​

  • The panel is enabled automatically for all Work Items after installation. If it is missing, confirm the app is enabled under Settings > Apps > Manage apps.
  • Try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache.

My diagram looks different after the update​

In October 2026 the app moved to Mermaid 12, which changed the default look and layout of flowchart, sequence, class, state, ER and requirement diagrams. The official Mermaid Live Editor changed the same way. Your diagram code is unchanged.

To bring back the previous layout and shapes, add these lines to the top of the diagram:

For sequence diagrams, look: classic alone is enough. Don't add layout to mindmaps. See Keep the previous look for details and the option to restore the previous colors.

Diagram does not render in Safari​

Mermaid 12 needs Safari 17.4 or later (iOS 17.4 on iPhone and iPad). Update Safari or use a current version of Chrome, Edge or Firefox.

Syntax error shown instead of diagram​

  • Review the syntax page for the diagram type you are using - see Mermaid Diagram Syntax.
  • Common causes: missing closing brackets, incorrect indentation (Mindmap, Timeline), or more than one --- config block. The config block must be the very first thing in the diagram code.
