Getting Started
Prerequisitesβ
- Confluence Cloud instance
- Confluence Administrator permissions to install apps from the Atlassian Marketplace
Install the Appβ

The Atlassian Marketplace listing will be linked here once the app is published.
To install:
- Go to Settings β Apps β Find new apps.
- Search for Excalidraw.
- Click Try it free and follow the prompts.
- Once installed, the Excalidraw Diagram macro is immediately available on all Confluence pages β no additional configuration required.
Create Your First Diagramβ
- Open or create a Confluence page in edit mode.
- Click the Insert (
+) button in the editor toolbar and search for Excalidraw Diagram. - Select the macro β the Excalidraw editor opens inside the page.
- Draw your diagram using the toolbar on the left (shapes, arrows, text, free-hand, and more).
- When finished, click Save to close the editor and embed the diagram into the page.
- Publish the page β the diagram is now visible to all users with page access.
View and Edit an Existing Diagramβ
- Viewing: Anyone with access to the Confluence page can see the rendered diagram. The viewer includes zoom controls so readers can inspect the diagram in detail.
- Editing: Users with edit permissions for the page can click the Edit button on the macro to reopen the Excalidraw editor and make changes. Save the diagram and republish the page to apply updates.
Export a Page with Diagrams to PDFβ
Excalidraw diagrams are automatically included when you export a Confluence page using Confluence's built-in export:
- Open the page and click the β’β’β’ (More actions) menu.
- Select Export β Export to PDF (or Export to Word).
- The exported file will contain the diagram rendered as an image.
No extra steps are required β the export works out of the box.
