How to update to the latest version

Why you're here

Your site runs Secrets version 2, published in 2024. It keeps working, and nothing is switched off. A newer version is available with new features and ongoing fixes. See What's new.

Updating needs a Jira or Confluence admin, because Atlassian asks an admin to approve every major app update. Forge does not send admins a notification for this, so the update often goes unnoticed.

Pricing

The latest version of Secrets is a paid app:

• Teams of up to 10 users can keep using it for free.
• Larger teams pay per user through the Atlassian Marketplace. The price is shown in Manage apps before you confirm.
• Atlassian does not include a trial when an app moves from a free version to a paid one, so the subscription starts when you update.

Your data is safe

Updating in place keeps all your secrets and their passwords. Nothing needs to be exported or re-created.

Don't uninstall and reinstall the app to update it. Secrets are stored in the app's encrypted Forge storage, which is deleted when the app is uninstalled. Always use Update in Manage apps.

How to update

Jira

1. Sign in as a Jira admin.
2. Go to Settings (⚙) → Apps → Manage apps.
3. Find Secrets for Jira in the list of user-installed apps.
4. Click Update and review the changes.
5. Confirm the update.

Confluence

1. Sign in as a Confluence admin.
2. Go to Settings (⚙) → Apps → Manage apps.
3. Find Secrets for Confluence in the list of user-installed apps.
4. Click Update and review the changes.
5. Confirm the update.

After the update, open a work item or page with secrets and check that they unlock with the same passwords as before.

Not an admin?

Ask your Jira or Confluence admin to update Secrets. The Ask my admin button in the Secrets panel or macro creates a ready-made email for you. You only need to add your admin's address.
